Effect of Planting Dates and Organic Fertilization ( Humus ) on Vegetative Yield in Sweet Basil Plant ( Ocimum basilicum var. basilicum L. ) , Second International Symposium on Medicinal Plants , Petra , Jordan , 2010.
Abstract :
Two field experiments were carried out during spring season 2009 in two locations in Al – Najaf district to study the effect of three planting dates and spraying with three concentrations of the organic fertilizer ( Humus ) on some growth parameters and the vegetative yield of sweet basil plant ( Ocimum basilicum var. basilicum L. ) .
The experiments were adopted in randomized complete block design ( RCBD ) in three replicates with two factors , first three planting dates ( 15/3/2009 , 1/4/2009 , 15/4/2009 ) , second three concentrations of organic fertilizer ( 0 , 3 , and 6 ml / L ) , the means compared in Duncans test on probability of 0.05 .
The first date increased significantly comparing with other dates in growth parameters which produced higher plant height , number of leaves and lateral branches , percentage of dry weight , leaf contents of total chlorophyll , yield of dry weight , the leaves content of carbohydrates , soluble protein , vegetative yield per unit area when compared the two lower values of the farm planting at the third date with the lower of the vegetative yield per unit area in the two locations .
Spraying the plants with ( 6 ml / L ) of the organic fertilizer gave significant increase in growth parameters producing high values in the two locations .
